The President and Board of Directors of the Garden Club of America announce with great sadness the passing of its esteemed former president, Bunnie duPont (Mrs. Nicholas R. duPont ), on February 1, 2014. She was a member of the Garden Club of Wilmington and the Garden Club of Palm Beach and she served the Garden Club of America with distinction in many capacities, including that of president from 1973-75. Her leadership furthered the mission of the organization and she was a true inspiration to all who knew her.
GCA now offers 27 scholarships, fellowships, and awards. In 2013, the centennial year of the GCA, 79 scholars, from under-graduate students to doctoral level candidates, were awarded a total of $273,000 to support field work and research in the areas of landscape architecture, horticulture and related fields, botany, conservation and ecological restoration, coastal wetlands studies, native bird habitat, garden history and design, urban forestry, desert studies, national parks conservation, pollinator research, and public gardens. Their studies took them across the entire United States and the world.
